Mow the lawn
The idea of mowing the lawn came to me when I was about ten. My pocket money was never enough, so I looked for a way to earn some money myself. I found an old but working lawnmower in the basement – and suddenly I had a plan: Why not just ask my neighbors if I could mow their lawns?
I was a little nervous at first, but I approached a few people in the neighborhood directly. Soon, I had my first clients—and over time, even regulars. I enjoyed the work; I was outside, getting some exercise—and earning my own money.
After a few months, I wanted to take my small business to the next level. I built a simple website and designed business cards with QR codes. It was a huge hit. Later, I even offered lawnmower subscriptions: mowing ten times for a fixed price. I thought it was cool how professional the whole thing became.
However, when I started high school, it became difficult to juggle everything. School took priority, and after about a year and a half, I had to end my project. Nevertheless, it was a valuable experience—not only did I earn some money, but I also learned a lot about initiative, customer service, and organization.
